Philosophy of Perchta

I. The Circle of Time

We do not submit to the dictate of constant availability. Our art is not a product, but a precious asset that requires space and time. We only appear when the energy is ripe. Our absence is not stagnation, but an inhalation.

II. The Ritual of Encounter

We reject the arbitrariness of endless touring. A Perchta concert is not a “gig”; it is usually an exclusive event, precious in its rarity. Those who want to hear us must undertake the journey.

III. Substance over Appearance

In a world that loses itself in triviality, we choose silence. Our social channels are for information, not entertainment. We do not feed algorithms with our private lives. The focus lies on the vision, not on the individual. When the curtain falls, Frau Percht materializes — and with her, the archaic heritage.

IV. The Sacred Blood and the Elevation of Woman

We bring the unembellished reality of the female body and the cycles of nature onto the stage. Between a canon of contractions and ritual rage, we celebrate the creative and destructive power of the feminine, inspired by our lives as parents, as partners, as activists, by the work as a midwife, and by life as a woman. Our message is one of empowerment: autonomous, physical, and unyielding. We do not need artificial provocation; life itself is extreme enough.

V. The Offering of the Hand

We refuse the online trade of our wearable merch. What we create is passed from hand to hand. Whoever takes a piece of Perchta home has earned it through direct exchange. Our mostly strictly limited utensils and garments, designed with love, are in part tools of autonomy, not souvenirs of mass consumption. In front of the stage, we are grounded, open, and genuine people. On stage, we are transmitters and assume a role. We value closeness to the audience just as much as the distance of the mask.

XI. The Collective of Responsibility

Perchta is not an ego project, but a network of trust. Each band member brings their civilian strength into the shared cauldron. We do not only rehearse music; we share life. This deep connection allows us total transformation on stage. Because we know who will catch us, we can lose ourselves in the scream and the ecstasy.

VI. Tradition without Hate

We are deeply rooted in our homeland and our traditions. Yet our love for culture is inseparably linked to humanity. We firmly distance ourselves from any form of extremism, racism, and exclusion. Our homeland is a place of strength, not a tool of division. The darkness of our music serves catharsis, not hate.

VII. Unadorned Primal Force

Our mother tongue is the Lower Inn Valley dialect from Tyrol — it is raw, unembellished, and direct. Within it resonates the heritage of our ancestors, which we carry into the modern age. We use native folk instruments not as decoration, but as a bridge to a time when music was still of a ritual nature.

VIII. The Unyielding

We do not allow ourselves to be sold to the market. We consciously forgo profit in order to protect our integrity and our families. We remain mad in the eyes of those who see only numbers — and truthful in the hearts of those who seek the spirit. Because art only burns when it is not consumed.

Origins

Lady Perchta or Lady Percht is a mythic being that can be found in continental Germanic and Slavic mythology. It is assumed that she emerged out of the Germanic goddess Frigg through assimilation of Celtic influences. In middle Germany she corresponds most closely to “Frau Holle”. The name can be derived from the old German word perhat, which translates to bright or shiny and therefore means “the radiant”.
